American Military Conducts Deadly Attack in Pacific, Leading to Four Deaths

As stated by a high-ranking defense spokesperson, the American armed forces executed a fatal strike on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four people.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by a terrorist group in international waters. Surveillance verified the vessel was transiting along a known narco-trafficking route and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. All four male drug traffickers were killed, and no US military forces were injured.”

Background and Prior Actions

The statement comes a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil profits to fund drug trafficking and other crimes, vowing to escalate the military buildup.

Just on the previous day, US defense officials stated it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, over 20 strikes have killed at least 99 people, most off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Defends Tactics Amidst Pressure

The administration has encountered increasing demands to make public video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a success, saying it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is exceeding the limits of lawful warfare.

Although the administration has stated the campaign is about halting drugs destined for the US, remarks from a senior aide seemed to suggest a broader geopolitical aim. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff remarked the leader “wants to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president surrenders or concedes.”

This suggests the military campaign may be linked to a strategy to oust Venezuela's current leadership.
