Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his position after a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the club's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received a lot of support from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I sense the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over familiar failings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell of this nature with results like these.”
Jones finished, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to the top, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
