Both Deceased Students Identified in Brown University Shooting as Authorities Persist in Manhunt for Killer.

Both young individuals who died in the weekend's mass shooting at Brown University were being remembered Monday – while an intensive search for their killer carried on following the release by authorities in Rhode Island of the only individual detained in connection in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a ceremony on Sunday.

Cook was vice-president of Brown’s division of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also expressed sympathies on social media, saying in part: “There are no words. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, especially her parents.”

The Second Victim

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, an Uzbek national in his initial year at the renowned school, according to relatives.

Umurzokov’s identity was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and assisting patients,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a tribute.

What Happened

Nine other people were hurt in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Authorities said late Sunday that a man aged 24 detained in a search at a Hampton Inn about 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“We have a murderer out there,” said the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you must reassess and pursue a different angle, and this is precisely what occurred over the last approximately one day.”

Public Fear

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, noted: “It is expected to provoke renewed concern for our public”.

The assailant discharged a weapon inside a lecture hall in the building on Saturday, shooting over four dozen bullets from a handgun, a law enforcement official reported to the news agency.

Officers that raided the lodging recovered two handguns and two loaded 30-round magazines when the individual was detained, as was reported.

The Wounded Victims

Among those wounded, one student was allowed to go home, said the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in serious yet stable state, and another was critically ill, officials reported on Sunday.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the student's death in a statement. “Our profound condolences go out to the Umurzokov family, friends, and peers and grieve for of his potential.”
