New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during their latest talk.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His family, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.”

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, from our conversation, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities shared video stills earlier this week of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. What prompted the attack is currently under review and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries were reported.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday morning in the area between Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was taken to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse just had a child.

“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd hasn’t played this season, his first with the Jets, after being placed on injured reserve on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in March and was expected to be an important component of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “In fact, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and later was with the Texans subsequently. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
