This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a long and happy life free from concern.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and cafecito as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
