Wilfried Nancy declared he did not fear the sack, maintaining, “We are really close to things turning around,” in the wake of sliding worryingly close to the exit with a heavy defeat by Rangers.

A Second-Half Capitulation Results in Old Firm Defeat

The Hoops had led Rangers at the break but a second-half capitulation allowed Danny Röhl’s team to move level on points with the reigning league title holders. Nancy, who was appointed in December, has now presided over six losses in his first eight games.

“There is unity at the club,” said Nancy.

Pressed on whether he was concerned, Nancy responded: “That’s not my focus. My focus is on finding ways to help my team to be good on details.

Fan Fury On Display

Hundreds of supporters made their feelings clear – towards the dugout and directors – by gathering outside the stadium. The board are reportedly likely to bring back the former boss, who enjoyed a successful caretaker period before Nancy was hired, should a change be made.

“The outcomes [that leads to pressure]. So this is the truth for the moment. But when I say that’s how it is, that is not a sign that I am pessimistic. Absolutely not. What I mean we are on the cusp, imminently close to change the narrative.”

Nancy’s Persistent Belief

He continues to cling to the fact the side can perform strongly for a half at a time. Indeed, were it not for poor finishing they might have been better than 1-0 up. “I saw enough except the fact that we missed a second goal,” he said. “I know that we lost, but I have also to be balanced.

“The level we had at times was exceptionally high. This is the reality. I wouldn't say that if it was different. But that’s why, regarding outcomes, I said it's a repeating pattern. Which is why I believe we are really close to a shift in fortunes. But for the moment: the fine margins.”

“There were a lot of encouraging signs that we did, once more. However it’s about consistency. My message would be different the same. Therefore I firmly believe we’re going to be able to turn things around.”

The Rangers Boss Outlook

Danny Röhl was cautious about a championship push in spite of what felt like a statement victory. “One match at a time, then we can really build up a challenge,” he said. “The faith in the squad is outstanding.”
